In Galicia, each place of worship is marked with a hermitage, a temple, a stone cross (or cruceiro) or wayside shrine. Ortegal is a shining example of this. In the four districts which make up Ortegal we can find almost fifty whorship places like this one.
It is said that the Galician stonemasons cut Romanesque granite like silkworms spun silk. As well as the Romanesque stone, the visitor can also see examples of Neogothic, Baroque structures like San Xiao de Trevo (Cariño), Santa María de Bares (Mañón), Santo Domingo (Ortigueira), San Claudio (Ortigueira), churches or many other places of worship all around the area.
